I’m afraid your correspondent only managed a single circuit of The Cheltenham Dinner Marathon before being pulled up sharply. The Stewards asked for a vets’ report, and were told that it appeared to be a case of setfast, caused by a back issue and a possible reaction to ingesting alcohol, having been mainly dry for almost ten weeks.
To say the connections were disappointed would be an understatement, especially in light of the enormous supplement fees, overnight charges and boxing costs. Never mind. Your correspondent is back home and the trainer’s wife has prescribed two days box rest and plenty of liquid. He is odds-on to be fit for the Royal meeting, so all’s well, although the dinner last night was not especially revealing.
