I was strong on HALLELUJAH U in The Bahrain Trophy today, and he duly came in 3rd at 20/1. Inevitably, I dutched him to win, but the guidance might have helped. Ryan Moore had a day to forget, and I shall forget I ever mentioned him. Occasionally, you see something in the line of the form or the layout of the card, and you just get a sense of where things might be heading… in Ryan’s case, it was down the Swanee.

On Sporting TV this past week, two people saw what was in front of them and correctly interpreted the information, producing memorable sports comments. Sports commentary is always a two-edged sword. At its best it can provide a deeper grasp of the context; analysis of situations we might hitherto been unaware of; and of course, create an air of excitement when the “home” team is winning, or the sports play is of exceptional quality. At its worst it can be repetitive, pointlessly over-enthusiastic, and state the bleeding obvious in the most clichéd way. (Or it can simply suggest backing Ryan Moore to win in every race).
