Labour’s Brand needs a good deal of reflective time.

Why am I surprised at the outpouring of horror, disapproval and rank hypocrisy from the loopy left against their former friend, idol and colleague, the criminal formerly known as Brand? The Guardian especially has been eager to ignore the fact that he wrote at least 120 articles for them, that they published his autobiography and put on special events at which he was the key speaker. Maybe Rushbridger’s memory is going? “I only met him once, when he was writing a popular football column for the Guardian [He never wrote a football column: Ed] along with the occasional commentary piece.”

For at least the last 18 months, Reform has had a really desperate battle to find a defence spokesman, but today it appointed Wing Commander Angus MacIntyre, who was tautologically described by some illiterate wonk in the Reform press office as a Commissioned Wing Commander. Sadly, the Wingco lacks initials after his name. I’m not looking for an MC or an MBE, but MP would at least make some sense.

Today I learned that the winning distances of today’s racing selections would not be troubling the Zeptoverse. Yer wot?
