I’m going to flip things this weekend. There is so much going on, and I’m aware that (as is the case in the real world), not everyone wants the tips and not everyone wants the opinions of a non-driver on F1 racing; different strokes for different folks, I guess. So here are my thoughts on the Golf, the F1 Bahrain practice session, the TV racing, and, of course, the Calcutta Cup. Everything else will be in Part Deux

GOLF:

Pebble Beach is going OK, but this is the second week that Scottie Scheffler has come out of the trap like a fat pheasant on a diet of ball-bearings. He carded a straight par round, leaving him 10 off the pace. This time last week, he was in a similar situation and came third, so hope is not abandoned. Defending champion Rory McIlroy is being mercurial, showing flashes of brilliance with a hole-out eagle from a greenside bunker at Spyglass Hill. However, two double bogeys on par-5s slowed his momentum, and he finished with a 4-under 68. Bradley shot the day’s best round at Spyglass Hill (traditionally the tougher of the two courses), notable for a birdie-eagle-birdie combo at 7,8 and 9. Gotterup, (last week’s winner), is beginning to irritate me with his consistency, putting together a run of six consecutive birdies, ending the day -8. In the main, 50% of our team are within 4 or 5, so I am by no means despondent at this early stage.
