If its a Renaissance then it must be The Open next
I am quietly chuffed about the Scottish Open’s coming of age. It always felt like a useful curtain-raiser for a proper tournament. A chance to check sweaters, clean out the bag's pockets, and practice with the new 7-iron. For years, it had a sort of half-life, appreciated by players needing a little links practice before The Open but rarely regarded as a prize in its own right. That has changed. The field is now scarcely distinguishable from a major championship, and, more importantly, so is the standard of golf required to win it.
