Lambourn’s other pub, which isn't in Lambourn, The Queens Arms in East Garston, is having its annual Christmas outing with posh box, lunch, badges, charabanc and thousands of tips from the various racing people there. The day is hosted by the Queen’s Arms owner, Freddie Tulloch, who once rode in a charity race at Newbury but who will take the easier road to the Winners Enclosure today by sponsoring a race. Freddie’s parents, Bill and Georgina, owned some memorable horses, such as Lean Ar Aghaidh, Pollardstown, My Young Man, Mahogany and the winner of the Middle Park Creag-An-Sgor, so box guests and QA regulars shouldn’t be short of winning tips - but just in case they’re shy of suggestions, here are my tuppence-worth.

LIAM SWAGGER was an OK maiden on the Flat who caught the eye (wearing TT) when winning Juvenile Hurdles at Market Rasen and Wetherby (Listed) this autumn. He’s conceding weight all around but looks on the up. Stablemate KINETIC is at a backable price given that weight difference, and Gary Moore tries JUSTICE ROLL in a first-time hood after a 3rd at Kempton on Good - but having won a staying French maiden back in June on Soft. Too big a price. Use LIAM SWAGGER in doubles and trebles.
